Hi. My name is Dennis and this is the website I haven’t updated in forever. I blame the lack of updates on the following three things:

(a) I’m lazy (I don’t even have a job these days).

(b) Flickr & iPhone. Why write blog posts when I can just send pics and super witty headline right to Flickr. (what? you’re not checking my Flickr? Dick!)

(c) Tumblr vs. Movable Type (er, blogging tools). I hate writing long entries. I hate putting them into MT 3.0 cause its a disaster (so. super. slow.). And Tumblr drives me crazy sometimes with it’s wonky HTML formating and styling (sorry, Karp)

So, let’s try this again (yes, with Tumblr). I ain’t go no job so I got plenty of time… and I’m trying to spend as much time as I an at the beach (trying to learn how to surf / how not to drown) so I got fewer distractions. Ok!

Hey, i just got back from Adult Camp which was the most fun weekend of all time.

About 30 of us rented out a summer camp in the Berkshires for this weekend. Camping + grilling + fires + smores + swimming + kayaks + rope course (!!) + climbing wall + kickballl + 800 beers + all the spiders you can eat!

I owe this one a big teendrama recap, but those can sometimes take forever. For now, buckets of photos here…

Hey hey - I’m about 1/2 way through my trip though Scandanavia with Mr. Eric Freid (chilling at his + his wife Yumi’s place in Jonkoping - central Sweden, 8th largest city). Awesome times so far - Ferry ride across the Baltic Sea, two nights in Helsinki (Finland), two nights in Tallinn (Estonia), another overnight ferry across the Baltic, three nights in Stockholm and a few days here in the countryside before heading to Copenhagen (Denmark) next weekend.

I’m trying to send a steady stream of pics to my Flickr stream (I heart you, iPhone!), so go get yer teendrama on over there till I get back (er, a week from Monday - May 26 me thinks).

I just posted an 82 picture recap of the 2007/2008 ski season to teendrama - easily the best season in the history of the internet!

Oh man, one of the more fun recaps to write since there were so many good times this season.

Quick overview: 30 days, two *big* dumps in VT (15” each?) and *three trips of west* - Jackson Hole, Beaver Creek, Snowmass/Aspen - plus of course Sink or Stoopid Skim (sank, sorry for the spoiler, but you already knew that was coming). Anyway, ready?

Hey, I’m headed to Sweden today for 3 weeks! With an luck I’ll be rendezvousing with this guy (Eric Fried, BFF from college) at the train station in Copenhagen in about 24 hours. See you guys at the end of May!: We were BFF in college, though I haven’t hung out with Eric in forever (lives in Sweden!) Top left: On our way back from Spring Fling 1996. The soft top on Eric’s jeep flew off (!!) as we were going about 75 mph. We stopped at a rest area, unscrewed the doors off the bathroom stalls and used the screws to hold the roof on. Top right: Some random 600 Euclid / Green Monster party. Josh Newman = cranked. Bottom left: Ice House beers back in Booth Hall rm 105. (er, the same dorm room where Eric and I got picked up by the cops for making Fake IDs) Bottom right: Visiting Boston College freshman year. We’re in some random girls dorm room. Eric is writing “SYRACUSE” on her wall with a sharpie. Sound be a fun few weeks. See you end of May!

Catching Up Recap #2 :: Finally a SXSW 2008 recap! - Wedding crashing, lobby swimming, and five 4am nights worth of free drinks (oh and also there were some internet panels)

Hey, welcome to Part 2 of my catching up before I take off for Sweden (!!). With any luck Part 3 - ski season recap! - should be up over the weekend (what, you missed Part 1? But that what’s Mom’s 60th bday!) Anyway, so let’s finally get this SXSW recap out of the way (er, from first week in March!)

So, SXSW = South by Southwest, the interactive + film + music ~~conference~~ festival that’s held down in Austin, TX every Spring. Alex and I went down on the Google dime in 2006 and it was amazing (esp since dodgeball was the Next Big Thing at the time). We went down again in 2007, though that was when me + Alex were brawling with Google over their neglect of dodgeball (all while Twitter was blowing up as the Next Big Thing). So 2008… I wasn’t really too hot on the idea of going down. I’m kind of in-between-jobs and in-between-projects and just wasn’t really that fired up for it. Then again, everyone in the world was headed to Austin… Alex, Karen, Kevin.K, Harry.H, Danny Denver and just about everyone I know from ITP whose now out in SF.

With about 2 days before the conference, Alex and Kevin start giving me for shit for not planning on coming. I did’t have a plane ticket, I did’t have a hotel (er, impossible to find even 2 months before the festival) and I didn’t have a badge ($500!). I started IMing with Karen about maaaayyybbbee coming down - secret surprise style, which is when Karen said I could crash in their hotel for a night. And then Danny Denver turned out to have an extra place to crash. And then I started looking at plane tix and realized I had a Jet Blue voucher. And then heard that my buddy Ryan who was running a panel on Location Aware Gaming had a open spot to fill (poor Slavin had pneumonia) which would score me a freebee speaker’s badge. So, early Friday afternoon - while everyone was already en route to Austin - I scrapped together my five-days-in-Austin itinerary, packed my lil’ green backpack and headed to JFK. I text’ed Karen to tell her know that I managed to scam my way down and to try to keep all the ITP kids out late enough so I could make a secret surprise entrance… masterplan was to get in around 10:30p, roll into downtown Austin around 11p. Woo-hooo!

… and they I get to JFK and realize that Jet Blue has crushed my dreams yet again. My 8:45 flight delayed 2+ hours - pushing my 12am arrival time, back to around 3am.

Long story short, I told KB to keep everyone out till midnight. She knew I was super delayed and kept people out as late as possible. By the time I rolled up to the SXSW’s opening night after-party (er, 3:55am) there were no more beers, no more good times, and Alex and Ron and Manlio and Danny and KB (good bless them) were all Slurry McCrunkedaLot. Still a successful late night reunion!

Hello Saturday! The panel I fandangled myself onto (“You Are Here, Gaming and Geolocation”) was one of the very first panels of the conference. Bad because the panel isn’t as crowded as it would be if it was in the afternoon, good because at least you get it out of the way, leaving you stress free for the rest of the festival.

and ps: “In Between Jobs” is the best job of all jobs!

Hey, a special teendrama congrats goes out to Mike Ferrari (one of my BFFs from high school!) for getting engaged last week! (sorry Mike, looked for a good photo of you and Meg, but couldn’t find one… so you get stuck with this photo of you slaying Baby’s First Karaoke Song ever).

Maybe also worth mentioning that way back in the day the four of us (me + Mike + Mike + Rob) made a bet ($100 each me thinks?) on who’d be the last person to get married… Mike.d’s out (last summer!), Ferrari’s soon-to-be-out (April 08), The Lt.’s got a babygirl of his own… which leaves Denny Danger looking like the lead horse to pick up that sweet $300 prize (hey, free Xbox!).

Anyway, congrats to both Mike and Meg! (ps: loyal teendrama fans can stalk more of Mikey here, here and here… and man-oh-man, am I kicking myself now for not having that World Series recap!)

My friends Kati, Kate and Rob have been working on a project called Botanicalls that let’s your plants call you (!!) when they need water, sunlight, etc. Every type of plant has a differnet voice and today I got to do the voiceover for the Boston Fern. Ha!

Er, in case you were wondering how it works: you stick a little sensor (er, pcomp) in the plant, the sensor measures for changes in water / sunlight / etc, if something seems off, the sensor (which is connected to the internet) makes a VOIP phone call and plays a recording (e.g. in case of Boston Fern “Whoa whoa - I’m wiiiiccccked thirsy and need some water over here!”). Awesome, eh?

Closing weekend at Mount Snow last weekend - me and JJ, McD and Xtian made the trek up and scored two days skiing in 70 degree weather. Maybe the two nicest ski days I’ve ever had - tshirts + supeersoft snow + mini sink-of-skim ponds scattered all over the mountain.

We were shooting digicam footage all weeend long (“ALL VIDEO WEEKEND!”) and I hear Xtian is editing up a few season finale episodes of Lift Talk.

I hit up the Sox / Yanks game with Alex + Karen + Matt.S last night (thx for the tix Mo!) = first game I’ve been to all season (and Sox win it 7-5).

Same old Yankee Stadium with the exception of the new stadium’s shell in the background and the fact that *beers are now $9.50*!!! (here’s us, just befoer the first pitch, rolling with $80 worth of Bud Light)

Hold on, lemme do this math real quick:

Yankee beers: prob 20oz cups x 8 beers= 160oz of beers / $76 = $0.47/oz

Standard 30 pack = 30 * 8oz cans = 240 oz / say, $18 = $0.075/oz

Which gives us a 600% markup (from 30 pack retail prices??) Can that be right?

Anyway, they also ran out of cups + pretzels + hot dogs around the 6th inning (at least in the section we were in) - WTF!
